Kuehne-Nagel Drinks Logistics
Kuehne-Nagel Drinks Logistics is the number one logistics company delivering drinks to the on-trade licensed market.
This is a multi-drop manual operation which is dependent upon the specialised skills and fitness of its draymen. To ensure we take the best pro-active and reactive care of our employess we have enlisted the services of Jon Daniel for the last three years as an on-site physiotherapist. Jon holds sessions twice a week and is there to treat long term and daily strains which occur as a result of manual work.
Jon recently introduced his FitBack class to our site. With his in depth knowledge of the type of injuries our draymen are prone to and with his experience of the effect of longer term "wear and tear", Jon has convinced our draymen to take a personal , pro-active approach to their own welfare and fitness. The FitBack Class is designed to teach the men to routinely exercise their backs which is a notorious weak spot for all manual workers. This in itself is a challenge as one has to say that the industry does have a macho image and "exercise" with a ball is a "hard-sell".
However the men have taken to this class as they have trust in Jon and , in short, it makes sense !! Many have seen the benefit of incoporating the exercises into their routine to relieve stiffness and aches, relax tension and strengthen weakness. The benefits of feeling better overcome any self doubt and the classes increased in popularity once the first brave souls had taken the plunge! They soon became advocates of the exercise programme.
Jon's overall service and this class in particular have been well received by employees and they are appreciative of the help the company have invested in them. This leads to improved team morale.
One cannot ignore that not only does this service meet employer obligations to care for its employees, it has the benefit of reducing costly sickness absence. Back pain remains the number one reason for absence in industry and any reduction, however unquantifiable, means reduction of cost. The loss of productivity for long periods, cost of temporary cover and continued payment of Company sick pay whilst absent, makes any absence costly to a business. Jon,maintaining and managing employees through back pain has been a major boost, contributing significantly to reduction of lost time through back pain.
I would recommend to any company to invest in this pro-active, low cost initiative! It really is "win win" for all concerned!!!

FitBack Rehab Case Study
I attended the FitBack Rehab course after being diagnosed with having a disc bulge in my low back. The bulge was pressing on my sciatic nerve causing severe pain from my lower back down my left leg into my foot. I work in an office and spend most of the day sat in a chair which was aggravating my symptoms.
I found the first class was like a therapy session. It was so good to talk to other people experiencing the same symptoms and types of pain.
All the exercises are done on a ball so they are fun to do and easy enough to continue to do at home. The exercise cards are clearly set out and easy to follow.
Over the four one hour sessions I learnt how to stretch and strengthen my inner core muscles which will help protect my back from further injury. My confidence in moving grew as my pain decreased. There were 6 people in the class which meant that Jon was able to spend time with each of us adapting our exercises to our specific problems.
I still do the exercises I learnt at least twice a week at home which take me around twenty minutes to do.
I highly recommend the FitBack Rehab course to anyone that is experiencing any kind of back pain.
